Alors qu'un tas d'intrus, y compris un avocat de bonne réputation et un faux pasteur, descendent sur le manoir du professeur pour voler le bijou pour eux-mêmes, Morlant revient d'entre les morts ("quand la pleine lune frappe la porte de ma tombe" a-t-il prédit avant de mourir pour tuer tous ceux qui l'ont trahi.
