Sabaté lives in exile in France, but since the end of the Spanish Civil War he has never stopped making forays into Spain in an attempt to overthrow fascism in the only way he knows and considers effective: direct action. This journey, structured like a road-movie with a hint of western, highlights the fears of four characters and Sabaté, their past, their regrets and questions about their cause and the violence, uncovering the ghosts of the past of all these characters in a fast-paced adventure where both sides show that they are fine adversaries.

Pep (13 ans) est complètement amoureux d'une fille de la ville de ses grands-parents, Sara Amat (14 ans). Une nuit d'été, Sara disparaît sans laisser de traces. La jeune fille lui dit qu'elle a fui chez elle et lui demande de rester avec lui. Bien qu'il sache que toute la ville le recherche, Pep accepte et devient son protecteur et son complice. Le garçon est obligé de mener une double vie : il doit mentir à tout le monde et répondre aux exigences de Sara, qui le testera et le fera mûrir par son courage avant la fin de l'été...

À la suite de la mort de ses parents, Frida, 6 ans, quitte Barcelone et part vivre à la campagne chez son oncle et sa tante et leur petite fille de 3 ans. Le temps d'un été, l'été 93, Frida apprendra à accepter son chagrin, et ses parents adoptifs apprendront à l'aimer comme leur propre fille.

"Caracremada" ("Burnface" in Catalan), a nickname given by the Spanish Civil Guard to Ramon Vila Capdevila, reflects about the libertarian resistance against Franco's regime through the last active guerrilla fighter. In 1951 the CNT ordered the retreat of its militants; however Ramon Vila remained in the woods of inland Catalonia where he restarted the fight operating on his own.

Sara disappeared two years ago and since then in the village, Trinquet, they have not heard from her again. Pep, who has always been in love with her, decides to go out to look for her, in a desperate attempt to understand how and why he ran away.
