Dans la montagne, le berger Pedro (Franz Eichberger) dort paisiblement dans sa cabane tandis que ses moutons paissent dans la montagne, lorsqu'un loup vient et attaque les moutons qui s'enfuient. Alerté par le bruit des clochettes, le berger se précipite dehors et engage une lutte féroce contre le loup, qu'il tue. Au pied de la montagne, dans les champs, on construit un fossé pour détourner l'eau vers plus loin, pour que le marquis Don Sebastian puisse abreuver ses taureaux qu'il fait combattre. Les fermiers protestent, mais ne sont pas entendus. Une roulotte gitane avance sur la route, avec à l'intérieur, Marta (Leni Riefenstahl), tandis que Pedro aussi fait avancer ses moutons vers la vallée.

Cependant Diotime ne peut s'abstenir d'encourager les attentions de Vigo lors d'une séance de ski fougueuse. Alors qu'elle a un moment d'intimité avec Vigo, son ami les surprend et, de colère, défie Vigo de tenter une escalade dangereuse. Durant la course, il provoque la chute de Vigo mais se repent et le sauve. Les deux hommes se perdent dans la montagne et périssent avant que Diotime et les secours ne puissent les atteindre.

C’est dans les années 1920 qu’émerge en Allemagne la "Körperkultur", mouvement de masse célébrant le corps sain, la culture physique et les activités de plein air, et qui sera exacerbé jusqu’au culte une décennie plus tard dans l’idéologie nazie. Premier film documentaire long produit par l’UFA, "Force et beauté" s’inscrit parfaitement dans cette mouvance. Les séquences qu’il présente, tantôt instructives tantôt insolites (reconstitutions de combats de lutteurs de la Grèce antique, chorégraphies expressionnistes ou scènes de danse des quatre coins du monde), mettent en scène un certain nombre d’athlètes célèbres. On y retrouve notamment le nageur (et futur Tarzan) Johnny Weissmuller, ainsi qu’une toute jeune Leni Riefenstahl, qui y fait sa première apparition au cinéma en tant que danseuse.

An investigation of Leni Reifenstahl’s infamous film production of “Teifland” during the holocaust, one which used Sinti extras under forced labor conditions. After filming finished in 1944, these extras were sent to Auschwitz. Josef Reinhardt interviews the survivors and perpetrators, wondering if Reifenstahl knew this would happen at the end of production. Teifland was filmed from 1940-1944 but was not released until 1954. This documentary aired on television only once in 1982 and is banned in Germany to this day.
