A convicted racketeer becomes prison trustee when an inmate whom he persuaded to escape is killed.

A young doctor taking a break from work is shot in the head, and the police can't find a clue even as to a possible motive. Inspector Al Gordon (John Alexander) decides that he has to put some men on duty at the hospital, and one of them is Fred Rowan (Richard Conte), a detective with experience as an army medic, masquerading as an intern. What Rowan finds is a high-pressure world in which interns are hopelessly squeezed for time, sleep, energy, and -- most of all -- money, and walk a fine line on the edge of personal and professional disaster.

Kick In is a lost 1917 silent film crime melodrama directed by George Fitzmaurice and starring William Courtenay. It is based on the 1914 Broadway play of the same name by Willard Mack.

Michael O'More, an American who lives in Ireland with his uncle, a horsetrainer for the Earl of Balkerry, loves Lady Mary Cardigan, granddaughter of the Earl. He finds a rival in Capt. Brian Fitzroy, a rake who intends to buy the impoverished earl's castle and marry Lady Mary. After nearly killing Fitzroy in a brawl over Lady Mary, Michael flees to the United States. There he becomes financially secure when department store magnate Abe Feinberg offers him a job. Feinberg commissions Michael to establish a linen mill on the earl's estate. He and Mary, who is in the United States evading Fitzroy, return to Ireland and marry.

La veille de Noël, Nick Bianco (dont le père avait été tué par la police) attaque une bijouterie avec deux complices. Mais le braquage échoue et Nick, blessé, est arrêté. Comme il refuse de « donner » ses complices, il est condamné à vingt ans de prison. En prison il apprend le suicide de sa femme et décide de parler afin de sortir de prison et aider ses deux filles. Le milieu soupçonne Rizzo d'être un mouchard et charge un criminel psychopathe (Tommy Udo) de l'assassiner. Udo, ne trouvant pas Rizzo, assassine la mère de ce dernier en poussant son fauteuil roulant dans l'escalier. Udo est dénoncé par Nick. Mais grâce à son avocat, Udo est remis en liberté. Après avoir mis ses proches à l'abri, Nick décide d'affronter Udo.
