Aucune trace de désordre alentour, l’apparence sereine du visage, la première impression est celle d’un suicide par absorption de drogue. L’autopsie révèle une strangulation, la victime n’était pas enceinte mais du sperme est retrouvé, qui laisse penser à un crime passionnel. Une enveloppe vide trouvée dans son sac provient de l’église Guglielmo, le courrier attenant a disparu. Incapable d’oublier la sérénité sur le visage de Setsuko, Fujisawa, pour ses derniers moments avant la retraite, demande à faire partie de l’enquète.
