De ene groep gaat de jungle in, op zoek naar de olifanten, terwijl de andere groep afreist naar Mombai om het spoor van de smokkelaarste vinden. In hun poging de olifanten te redden moeten de rangers niet alleen de gevaren trotseren, maar belanden ze ook nog in een echte Bollywoodfilm.

The main protagonist is Chander, a tourist photographer in the Indian city of Nainital who lives with his parents (played by Alok Nath and Kanu Gill) and best friend Johnny (played by Sanjay Narvekar). While on his way to work, he meets a stage dancer (a banjaran) named Nirmala [played by Preeti Jhangiani] and is seduced by her beauty. He takes photographs of her and later befriends her, serenading her with sweet nothings about "taking her across the moon and stars" and promises to take her to the city of dreams, Mumbai. She agrees to be with him, despite objections from her guardians, her uncle (played by (Tej Sapru) and aunt (played by Himani Shivpuri) who had other plans for her. From there her career as a star begins under a new name, Garima.

Three young men, who are all of marriageable age, gets their hopes up on marriage, when a beautiful young woman comes to live in their neighborhood. Her name is Pooja Iyengar. All three of them try a hand at romancing her, and only one succeeds, that being Raju. The only problem is that while Raju is Gujerati, Pooja is Madrasi from the Iyengar community, and her dad, Shashtri, will not permit her to marry anyone outside his community, leave alone a Gujerati, and proceeds to get Pooja to get married to Prabhu, a young man from the Iyengar community, with hilarious results.

Ce dernier a en effet décidé, après une série de vols brillamment orchestrés autour du monde, de s'en prendre à Mumbai. Seulement, une fois arrivé en Inde, Mister A. tombe sur Sunheri (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), elle-même cambrioleuse, elle lui propose un partenariat que le séduisant bandit accepte. De leur côté, Jai et Ali se voient aidés par Shonali Bose (Bipasha Basu), également officier de police, spécialiste de ce mystérieux voleur que personne n'a jamais vu. Commence alors un jeu de cache-cache entre policiers et voleurs.

Iqbal Ansari (Atul Kulkarni), accusé d’actes terroristes, doit être transféré de Chadanghbad à Mumbai afin d’y être jugé. Une première attaque du convoi provoquant la mort de plusieurs policiers incite la police de Mumbai à envoyer une nouvelle équipe chargée du transfert du prisonnier. La mission est confiée à Anant Kumar (Amitabh Bachchan), policier à la veille de la retraite et à la carrière ratée, sans doute parce qu’il n’a jamais cédé à la corruption régnant dans le milieu. Il accepte cette mission, pensant être enfin reconnu et finir en beauté sa carrière en étant promu commissaire de police. La tâche ne sera pourtant pas simple puisqu’il a dans son équipe, un jeune policier débutant et Shekhar Verma (Akshay Kumar), homme courageux mais sans grande morale. Il faudra compter aussi sur les complices d’Iqba Ansari, qui semblent, depuis le début, être au courant de toute l’opération de transfert du prisonnier.
