Il y a longtemps, un jeune homme a engendré un enfant sans jamais savoir ce qu'il est devenu. A 17 ans, son fils, Rudi, revient en espérant retrouver sa famille après une enfance passée dans une institution. Il espère trouver chez sa mère reconnaissance et affection, et surtout connaître l'identité de son père, mais il constate qu'il n'est pas le bienvenu. Presque par hasard, Rudi se retrouve dans un casting. Le réalisateur du film est fasciné par son innoncence et pense avoir trouvé son acteur principal. Mais un évènement terrible met bientôt fin aux bonnes intentions de Rudi. Il devient un tueur poursuivi, et le réalisateur se rend compte que ce garçon étrange et silencieux est son fils, un monstre qu'il a lui-même crée. Son seul choix est maintenant d'accompagner le destin brutal de son fils dans une recherche commune de la rédemption.
