Le premier long métrage semi-fictionnel du documentariste Védrès est sorti en France en 1949 sous le titre La Vie Commence Demain. Le film est sorti aux États-Unis en 1952 sous le titre Life Begins Tomorrow. Réalisé en coopération avec l'UNESCO, le film spécule sur l'avenir de l'humanité après l'avènement de l'énergie atomique. De nombreux artistes et intellectuels français de premier plan contribuent à la narration : Jean-Pierre Aumont joue L'Homme d'aujourd'hui, André Labarthe est l'Homme de demain, et Jean-Paul Sartre, Daniel Agache, Jean Rostand, Le Corbusier, Pablo Picasso et André Gide sont respectivement considéré comme "l'existentialiste", "le psychiatre", "le biologiste", "l'architecte", "l'artiste" et "l'auteur". Des extraits de films d'hôpitaux, de salles d'école, de laboratoires scientifiques et même des boîtes de nuit sont assemblés par Védrès dans une composition fascinante.
