Quand le jeune Willie McKay, après avoir grandi, sain et sauf, à New York, revient au pays, charmé puis invité par sa compagne de voyage, il ne se doute pas que celle-ci n’est autre que la plus jeune des filles Canfield et qu’il vient donc de se jeter dans la gueule du loup !

Un vagabond recueille un enfant abandonné par sa jeune mère qui, quelques années plus tard, est prise de remords et tente de retrouver son fils.

Patricia Reynolds, the belle of the summer resort she is visiting with her friend, Amy Powellson, attracts the attention of Arthur Kirby, whom Amy loves. On an evening drive, Arthur tries to kiss Patricia , whereupon she leaps from the car and walks home. While Amy, disguised in Patricia 's clothing, accompanies Arthur to a roadhouse, Patricia , walking near the beach, sees her invalid friend, Jim Wheeler, jump into the ocean intending to kill himself. After rescuing him, Patricia persuades Jim to visit a specialist, but when she later is accused of spending the night with Arthur, she refuses to defend herself in order to conceal Jim's attempted suicide.

Il y retrouve la femme du bateau qui est très triste car on devine que sa mère est morte...

Le vagabond Charlot est pris pour un pasteur par les habitants d'une petite ville.

Industrialist James Sheridan, Sr., once a laborer, insists on moulding the careers of his three sons; however, he loses James, Jr., in a flood disaster, and Roscoe suffers a mental breakdown. Realizing his mistake, he begins to insure the happiness of the third son, Bibbs, by bringing him together with Mary, the girl he loves.

Shortly after being made the executor of a wealthy man's estate, a man murders his benefactor. He then makes a play for the widow, who rebuffs him. To escape his arduous pursuit, she takes her little daughter on a trip but dies in an auto accident. The daughter is rescued but disappears. Her grandparents spend years looking for her, as does the executor who killed her father--if she's found she'll inherit the estate and he won't get a penny. He aims to see that she's never found, and if she is he plans to see that she doesn't live long enough to make a claim to the estate.

Three Chaplin silent comedies "A Dog's Life", "Shoulder Arms", and "The Pilgrim" are strung together to form a single feature length film. Chaplin provides new music, narration, and a small amount of new connecting material. "Shoulder Arms" is now described as taking place in a time before "the atom bomb".

Paul Drummond is adopted into a Franciscan Mission in California. Becoming of age, he believes he has a call to the priesthood. While at Theological Seminary, he becomes doubtful of his future and on the advice of his old Confessor he decides to become a physician. His roommate at college cherishes a little Crucifix given him by his mother. This Crucifix figures in the drama of events that finally convince Paul that the priesthood is his true calling.
