Tsuneo, étudiant à l'université, travaille à temps partiel dans un club demah-jong. Fréquemment les clients parlent d'une vielle dame et du contenu mystérieux du landau qu'elle promène. Un jour, il le découvre par hasard : c'est une jeune fille paraplégique du nom de Kumiko mais qui se fait appeler Joze (nom du personnage de son livre favoris). Une amitié se développe entre eux, jusqu'à peu à peu se transformer en amour.

Haiji était un coureur d'élite, mais n'a pas participé à une compétition en raison d'une blessure passée. Il rencontre ensuite un autre coureur d'élite, Kakeru, qui a également quitté la course, mais qui a été provoqué par un différend. Leur rencontre inspire les deux jeunes hommes à courir à nouveau, Haiji choisissant le légendaire "Hakone Ekiden" (course de relais longue distance). La course nécessite une équipe de 10 membres alors Haiji et Kakeru en recrutent 8 autres (dont certains n'ont jamais couru auparavant). Au sein de ce groupe improbable de coureurs, un lien se forme à travers leur entraînement et la conviction qu'ils peuvent accomplir l'impossible.

The story is about a group of university students who inevitably gets involved in playing a game of "Horumo" - a combat match where each person manipulates 100 spirits (referred to as "oni") to fight the opponent. Akira Abe, a freshman at Kyoto University student falls for his classmate Kyoko, and soon ends up at a mysterious club called “Kyoto University Azure Dragon” which turns out to be one of the Horumo teams, playing the mysterious (and somewhat absurd) game which started over 1,000 years ago in the Heian period.The heat rises as you see the 2,000 CGI created spirits wage fierce battles against the backdrop of breathtaking beautiful city of Kyoto. Toji, a manager of a food section in a medium-sized department store, has to put up with a tough boss that makes every day a real struggle. But things start to look up for him though when he meets a pretty elevator girl named Nao. Just as he is starting to enjoy a new-found happiness at work, a new account manager from an advertising agency visits Toji’s division, and it is none other than Toji’s ex-girlfriend from university, Makoto. Toji is surprised to see her again but Makoto treats him as if she has never met him before. Now dealing with a tough job and caught in the middle of a jealous Nao and Makoto who dumped him, things couldn’t get much worse for Toji!

Oomae Haruko est une travailleuse intérimaire A+ qui ne souri jamais. Elle est cynique mais ultra compétente. Satonaka Kensuke vient d'être promu à la tête de la nouvelle division Marketing de S&F.
