The plot follows a private detective, an ex communist and former CIA agent, who travels from Barcelona to Madrid to discover the identity of the assassin of the leader of the Spanish Communist party who was stabbed during a blackout while presiding over a meeting of the party's central committee. The film is a thriller with ironic political overtones.

L'inspecteur Andrés Gallego noue une relation passionnée avec Fanny, une prostituée délinquante qu'il a récemment arrêté à Barcelone. Il espère ainsi pouvoir approcher Manuel, l'amant de la jeune femme, et obtenir quelques informations concernant ses activités douteuses, notamment son stock important d'armes à feu. Après avoir finalement décidé d'abattre l'homme, Fanny retrouve Andrés quelques années plus tard avec la ferme intention de venger la mort de Manuel...
