Live in Cottbus '98 is a DVD by American band Death. It was recorded in Cottbus, Germany in 1998 and released on November 11, 2005 through Nuclear Blast. The DVD was released, along with the rerelease of The Sound of Perseverance, in order to commemorate the fourth anniversary of Chuck Schuldiner's death. The album was recorded directly through the soundboard and as a result, is very rough. The DVD also lacked a proper track listing.

Recorded at the Dynamo '98 show. this performance has the first live appearance of the Sound of Perseverance line-up. This is the live DVD of the live album with the same name. It was released to help support Chuck's medical fund, and was only available in limited quantities.

As the baby steps become giant leaps, the stable of supporting players grows and continually shines in its own devious light.

In different times and spaces, genres like Death Metal are born. The early 90′s were still full of the 80′s vibe of over-consumption & greed, which found it’s way into everyday life, even into the music that was created. Just like hardcore in the early 80′s, not all of the teenagers of this decade wanted to hear the bubblegum pop that had invaded the airwaves. Death Metal did not want to be digested by the masses, and as a sub culture it was totally happy being the outsider. I’m not sure what was in the water in Florida during the late 80′s, because those kids were on some next shit, and they helped push the genre to other heights. When you are living in a certain period of time, you do realize that the life you are living could become historic to others in the future.
