"Arena" est un programme de télévision documentaire de la BBC qui est sur les ondes depuis 1975. Avec plus de 600 épisodes produits jusqu'à présent, le spectacle a présenté une grande palette de repères culturels importants et des icônes. En 1980, les producteurs du spectacle ont décidé de présenter un groupe qui avait récemment explosé sur la scène musicale : DIRE STRAITS. Ce documentaire d'une heure a été diffusé pour la première fois le 22 décembre 1980. Les titres Live ont été enregistrés le 21 décembre 1979 au Rainbow Theatre de Londres en Angleterre. Les répétitions ont eu lieu au studio Whood Wharf de Londres également, entre les 4 et 7 mars 1980, ainsi que les interviews Moins d'un an plus tard, avant la fin des sessions d'enregistrement pour "Making Movies" (après que Mark ai admis qu'il souhaitait qu'ils continuent indéfiniment), David quitterait le groupe, pour ne jamais revenir.
