L'été approchant, la mère de Ben lui suggère de se trouver un petit boulot pour gagner un peu d'argent. Il tombe sur l'annonce d'Evie Walton, vieille actrice excentrique, pour qui il s'engage. Evie va alors lui faire découvrir un monde d'amusement qui lui permettra de s'affirmer auprès de sa mère tout en perdant en timidité.
