Noboru (Taku Manabe) finds himself in a very difficult situation. The factory he’s been working at has gone bankrupt. He heads to the factory’s office to demand his last paycheque, but it turns out some gangster thugs are there demanding money as well. Now with the yakuza on his tail Noboru has to run for his life. He ends up hiding out in a rundown rooming house in a mysterious area of Kyoto not listed on the city maps. It’s while Noboru is living in this rooming house and working as a security guard on a construction site that he encounters a cast of unusual characters: a fellow security guard who is obsessed by fossils, an aging widow on the edge of sanity, and a beautiful alcoholic woman named Miyuki (Natsumi Seto) who is convinced that she I growing a wing on her back. Will Noboru be able to stay hidden or will his newfound infatuation with Miyuki prove more dangerous than the thugs who are hunting him?

"Doremi" is a single-family house that runs quietly in a rural town with a lake. On the surface, it is a guest house that doubles as a residence for employees, but it is also a sex shop that retains the remnants of the Showa era. Après ses études dans une université de Tokyo, Tamako revient dans sa ville natale habiter seule avec son père qui tient un petit magasin d'accessoires de sport. Tamako passe ses journées à ne rien faire. Dormir, lire des mangas, jouer à la console sont ses principales activités et elle laisse même à son père toutes les tâches ménagères, que ce soit la cuisine, la lessive ou la vaisselle. Celui-ci aimerait bien que sa fille cherche un travail mais elle s'obstine à ne faire aucun effort. Et les saisons passent, automne, hiver... Quand vient le printemps, Tamako se dit qu'il serait peut-être temps de changer un peu.

A film about making films, we follow the exploits of Kiriko, an indie film director who is struggling to make a road movie that ends on a beach. Why do so many independent films have to have a beach scene? That is a question that gets asked along the way but her journey to the location is beset with difficulties, from budget to casting. There is only so much she can do and so she inches forward making compromises and finding ways around problems to realise her dream, all while living in the real world and fulfilling obligations to others as best she can.
