Shinobu Aoki

South of Tokyo is a small island until quite recently relatively unchanged since feudal times. Now, however, it is being made into a tourist's playland and the girls, who had been abalone divers, now become geisha, and the old ways of the island are all topsy-turvy. One of the girls, more sensitive than the rest, sees that here, too, people are motivated only by greed and decides to leave and try to find a better life elsewhere.

Professeur de gymnastique, Nobuko arrive de province pour enseigner dans une école pour filles. Elle est mise à dure épreuve par Eiko, une élève effrontée dont le père, un homme haut placé, finance l'établissement.

Le jeune Sadao apprend qu'il n'est pas le fils de Chieko, mais celui de la première épouse de son père. Chieko rechigne à être aussi sévère avec lui qu'avec son véritable fils. Sadao quitte alors le domicile familial et trouve refuge auprès d'une prostituée.

A melodrama by noted auteur and father of director Yoshitaro Nomura, Hotei Nomura. This is apparently the first adaptation of Izumi Kyoka's The Romance of Yushima.
