Ce film relate un fait divers qui fit grand bruit au Japon durant l'année 1988. Quatre jeunes originaire de Tokyo, Hiroshi Miyano qui avait alors 18 ans, Yuzuru Ogura, 17 ans, Nobuharu Minato, 16 ans à l'époque et Yasushi Watanabe, 17 ans, enlevèrent Furuta, une jeune lycéenne, étudiante dans la préfecture de Saitama à Misato, et la séquestrèrent durant 44 jours.
