This story unites the destinies of the landowners and their servants, and is considered to be one of the most complete portraits of the Russian life in the late XIX century. It takes place in Dry Valley, a village owned by the noble family of Khrushevs. The story tells about Natalia, a young and naive girl who serves in their country house. We see and experience her love, dedication to her masters, mysticism, exile, betrayal and faith, while the Dry Valley is falling to pieces, slowly but inevitably, as well as the lives of its inhabitants.

Pavel has passionately fallen in love with 18-year-old Katya, a daughter of the horse stable owner, where he works as a vet. He constantly comes up with different ways to attract Katya's attention. However, his plans are shuttered by Alexei, whom Katya has found seriously wounded and in need of medical aid at the road side. Alexei's coming disrupts the usual course of life of the farm's inhabitants. Katya, a strange and extraordinary girl, falls in love with Alexei, who is seeking to escape from this queer place. Meanwhile, Katya's mother, Irina, is torn between her daughter and her love for Pavel. Passion, jealousy and hatred become intertwined in this love square.

Police captain Pavel Semyonov serves in one of the residential areas of St. Petersburg. Pavel is used to breaking up drunken fights and entering drug dens alone to make another arrest. And when Pavel goes on the trail of a mysterious killer named Rafael, everything is completely confused. But in a difficult situation, Pavel can always rely on his friends from the sleeping area
