There is an old barbershop in the center of town. This is where Einar has cut hair for half a century or so. He has seen good times and bad times but independent from contemporary tendencies, he has always maintained his own style, but in recent years he has had to deal with the inevitable, his customers grow older, and one by one they slowly disappear. One day they simply don’t show up for their scheduled haircut. But what happens when one of his customers keeps coming after he is dead.

For want of a satisfactory political party, a group of young people parodically form their own candidate party. This film follows their campaign until election day.

Jon, professeur quadragénaire, va se marier pour la seconde fois. Thora, sa future épouse est une ancienne élève deux fois plus jeune que lui. Mais ce n’est pas tout rose… Il y a sa future belle-mère grincheuse qui s’oppose au mariage et lui demande le remboursement d’un prêt avant le jour J. Il y a aussi son projet de golf sur la petite île de Flatey qui ne prend pas forme. Pour ne rien arranger, son témoin est complètement ivre et part en vrille. Et pour couronner le tout, son ex-femme, plutôt émotive, surveille en permanence chacun de ses gestes… Lorsque les invités arrivent en masse sur l’île, Jon commence à avoir sérieusement la trouille… Après une longue nuit de réflexion et de boisson, Jon sera-t-il à l’église à temps pour la cérémonie ?

Various events of importance to the nation and to individual persons during the cold war and from about 1960 emerge as fragments of the memory of a little boy learning about life, about divorce, military occupation, the Beatles, little girls and death.

A whale-boat is making its final whaling tour of the season. It pursues and catches a whale, and then proceeds home. The men working on the boat have to find themselves different employment now that the season is over. Among the crew are two friends, Grímur and Bubbi. The film mainly concerns itself with their efforts to make some kind of contact with what is going on in Reykjavik.
