En 1754 débute la guerre entre Anglais et Français pour la domination des territoires entourant la région des Grands Lacs dans le nord-est du continent américain. On leur adjoint un interprète sachant parfaitement parler le français qui se révèle être... une femme, la charmante Alison (Helena Carter). Même si cela ne plaît guère à Pathfinder, les voici tous les trois partis se jeter dans la gueule du loup...

Quiet, organised Dr Talbot meets nightclub singer Nora Prentiss when she is slightly hurt in a street accident. Despite her misgivings they become heavily involved and Talbot finds he is faced with the choice of leaving Nora or divorcing his wife. When a patient expires in his office, a third option seems to present itself.
