Katarina a 20 ans et habite une sombre banlieue de Göteborg. Elle n’a pas terminé sa scolarité et redoute de finir comme sa mère. Un jour, elle tombe par hasard sur une vidéo YouTube avec une musique de Mozart et tombe immédiatement sous le charme de ce morceau. Elle parvient à se faire engager comme réceptionniste à la salle de concert de la ville. Adam, le chef d’orchestre, la remarque et, bien que celui-ci soit marié, ils entament une relation. Au début, Katarina est au septième ciel, mais elle réalise bien vite qu’elle est non seulement en train de mettre en jeu son ancienne vie, mais aussi la nouvelle identité qu’elle s’est forgée de toutes pièces. Elle se retrouve alors emportée dans une spirale de mensonges et d’imposture…

It's the early 20s, just after World War I. In Sweden, restrictions on alcohol are harder than most people like and so, smuggling is abundant. In this particular little town, smuggling is ruled by one man, who is the king of smugglers. The smugglers who work for him don't get to keep much of the profit themselves, but if they don't work for him, they get in trouble, which his henchmen make sure. However, Albert Jansson arrives in town and starts taking up the competition with the smuggler king. Meanwhile, the police, together the customs office, try to catch the smugglers.

The story of a lone father's relationship with his daughter, of the destructive power of alcohol, of a child's vulnerability, but also of love, betrayal and socialist politics in 1970s Sweden.

A tragicomic story about the middle-aged Agneta who is a clerk at the big department store. She is dreaming of a perfect and happy family life but is in fact lonely and oppressed by her mother. The women at work do not see through Agneta but enviously admire her happiness.
