Deux enfants destinés à être élevés ensemble sont séparés à la naissance après l’assassinat de leur père respectif par les troupes d’un tyran local. L’un deux est capturé avec sa mère et envoyé dans le château du potentat tandis que l’autre est recueilli par une bande de sept chevaliers. Les enfants recevront une éducation martiale dispensée par deux maîtres différents. Ceux-ci se proposent de les faire combattre dix huit ans plus tard afin de comparer la valeur de leur élève. Les années passent. Le premier des enfants, Kuo Tsing, s’avère peu doué pour les arts martiaux mais parvient à tuer accidentellement un des chefs d’un clan pratiquant le kung-fu du squelette. Il s’attire alors les foudres d’une de ses guerrières. Le second enfant a été élevé dans l’ignorance de son passé. Il vit avec sa mère, devenue princesse, auprès du tyran qui a tué son père et pratique des arts martiaux maléfiques. Tous les protagonistes vont bientôt à nouveau être confrontés les uns aux autres.
