A movie based on real wartime diaries tells the story of the Swedish speaking Finns' infantry regiment 61. The story follows the regiment during the Continuation War from 1942 to 1944 and from Syväri to the Karelian Isthmus where they faced some of the most grueling battles against the Soviet Union.

Au cours de celle-ci, les force soviétiques lancèrent une large offensive avec des troupes bien supérieures en nombre et réussirent à percer les lignes finlandaises. Forcées de se replier, les troupes finnoises durent contre toute attente mener un combat acharné afin de préserver l'indépendance de leur pays face aux velléités d'annexion de leur voisin communiste.

Patrolman Loyan tries to find his place in the new police department while keeping his friend Warsame, newly released from prison, on the right track. Loyan's ambition is to get into detective training, but his supervisor Jokisalo thinks he'd be better off patrolling the familiar neighbourhoods with his partner Johanna. The patrol gets down to business when they start investigating what looks like a suicide. Antero Päiviö, a professional criminal and racial bigot involved in drug trafficking, has jumped from his balcony. The man who was first pronounced dead suddenly wakes up and is taken to hospital. Loyan finds it hard to believe the man's story and decides to find out the truth at any cost. As the plot unravels, it's hard to know who to trust anymore, when Warsame seems to be up to something behind Loyan's back.

Trouble arises when his girlfriend, Vera, learns about the plan, and doesn’t approve of it. Upset, she leaves Marco to his own devices and heads home. Alone in the forest, Marco has to learn how to ask for forgiveness.
