The third and final Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament was held over two nights, April 22 and 23, 1988. Scheduled to feature 24 teams, the tournament included a few changes to the original lineup.

The event was meant to be the first in a series of pay-per-views that would feature popular wrestling stars from the 1980s and early 1990s. The event is considered to be one of the worst wrestling events of all time, and was a critical and financial disaster.

There were 5,300 people in attendance and the show drew a 4.3 rating on TBS. This show was used to build the WrestleWar '89: The Music City Showdown PPV on May 7. Clash VI was held on the same day as WrestleMania V and on free TV in an attempt to hurt the PPV rating.
Clash of the Champions V took place on February 15, 1989 at the Cleveland Convention Center in Cleveland, Ohio. There were 5,000 people in attendance and the show drew a 4.6 rating on TBS. This show was warm up show for the Chi-Town Rumble PPV only 5 days later.

Dec 07, 1988WCW Clash of The Champions IV took place on December 7, 1988 at the UTC Arena in Chattanooga, Tennessee. There were 8000 people in attendance and the show drew a 4.5 rating on TBS. This show set up Starrcade '88: True Gritt. It was on this show that TBS/NWA experimented with a top down camera angle, which did not catch on. This is comparable to the "refer-eye" camera from Halloween Havoc '91. This is the very first supershow held by World Championship Wrestling.
