C’est l’été, Sam vient d’arriver avec sa famille sur l’île de Terschelling mais leur séjour débute mal. Sa mère est clouée au lit et son frère se casse une jambe sur la plage. Sam se retrouve alors seul à déambuler dans le village et rencontre Tess, une fille qui a des étincelles plein les yeux… Il se réjouit de partager des moments avec cette nouvelle amie qu’il admire. Lors d’un pique nique organisé par Tess, le jeune garçon constate qu’elle a un comportement étrange et il finit par comprendre qu’elle se sert de lui pour accomplir son plan secret...

The young Katelijne grows up in a strict Protestant peasant family. As the only girl between six brothers, she is hardly involved in farm work and is excluded from daily conversations. Hereby she lets her imagination run free by surrendering to Biblical stories, gossip and even fairy tales, although she is not allowed to read them. During her brother's wedding, however, she overwhelms her family with literature, saying goodbye to her childhood.

One sluggish Sunday, Pien is urged by her mother to go and play hide-and-seek with her two younger half-brothers. They accidentally discover a family hiding in the deserted industrial zone: refugees. Perplexed, the teen girl tries to think how she can help. Due to soft noises of shootings, echoes almost, the terrain suddenly seems a war zone. Meanwhile, Pien and the charming son are slowly enchanted by each other.

In a juvenile delinquent center two girls find comfort in love for each other. Once one of them gets released, they don't know how to deal with this and both seek for a solution, with tragic consequences - A contemporary love story based on the motives of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
