La chose fut enregistrée en 1978 avec une plâtrée de musiciens pas piqués des vers : Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span), Phil Beer (à la tienne), Nico Ramsden, les frangins Pierre et Benoît Moerlen (Gong) mais également le bassiste polonais Pekka Pohjola (auteur du très bon album Mathematician Air Display sur lequel intervient Mike, avis aux amateurs), David Bedford, Mike Frye, Tim Cross, les musiciens traditionnels Robin Morton et Ringo McDonough ainsi que le Queen College Girls Choir et j'en passe... autant dire que le père Oldfield voyait les choses en scope, en grand large, en mirobolant ! Tant est si bien que malgré son succès, la tournée s'avèrera un réel désastre financier. Pour se consoler, Virgin tentera d'amortir les dégâts avec ce double album.
