Race to Dakar is a documentary series following actor and keen motorcyclist Charley Boorman's entry into the 2006 Dakar Rally from Lisbon to Dakar. First aired on Sky2 and ABC Television during 2006, it was also released as a book.

Meet Russ Malkin and Charley Speed, chalk and cheese when it comes to their tastes in travel and now they're off on an epic journey through Europe and the US together. Russ is an adventurer, having travelled the world with Ewan McGregor on 'Long Way Down'. En outre, ils ont décidé de voyager constamment avec un infirmier, Dai Jones, l'agent de sécurité Jim Foster et divers «fixeurs» - guides locaux et interprètes - tout au long du voyage. 'Salty Sam' Stephenson, Pamela's great, great grandfather, family legend has it was the owner and captain of the sailing ship ROSALIE who was abandoned by his crew in the 1820s and never heard of again. A chance encounter with the descendant of another crew member who had a different story to tell prompted Pamela to discover the fate of her ancestor. Delving in maritime archives she begins to piece together his background. From Rotherhithe she retraces his journeys along the old spice route and hires a sailing boat with a heavily armed crew to continue her search in pirate-infested waters. A tale of genealogy, mystery and adventure.
