Pauvres et vivant d’arnaques, deux compères William Burke et William Hare découvrent par hasard qu’un cadavre frais peut leur rapporter beaucoup d’argent. A cette époque, Édimbourg est un haut lieu de la médecine en Europe et les chirurgiens cherchent désespérément des cadavres humains pour pratiquer leurs dissections et faire ainsi avancer leur science. La demande en produits frais ne manque pas ! Elle augmente. Appâtés par l’argent et désireux avant tout d’assouvir les envies matérielles de leur bien aimées, Burke et Hare ne vont pas tarder à orchestrer des "accidents" pour obtenir toujours plus de cadavres frais pour la Science.

À la fin des années 50, une révolution agite l’univers du music-hall: le succès phénoménal du rock, dont les jeunes vedettes attirent les foules, tandis que les numéros traditionnels – acrobates, jongleurs, ventriloques – sont jugés démodés. Notre héros, l’illusionniste, ne peut que constater qu’il appartient désormais à une catégorie d’artistes en voie de disparition. Les propositions de contrats se faisant de plus en plus rares, il est contraint de quitter les grandes salles parisiennes et part avec ses colombes et son lapin tenter sa chance à Londres. Mais la situation est la même au Royaume-Uni: il se résigne alors à se produire dans des petits théâtres, des garden-parties, des cafés, puis dans le pub d’un village de la côte ouest de l’Écosse, où il rencontre Alice, une jeune fille innocente qui va changer sa vie à jamais.

Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill are back and reviving their much loved characters Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade for the first time in years! They've not been seen on the small screen since a Hogmanay special in January 2008, but this year sees a full reunion of the original television cast as Jack and Victor are reunited alongside other Still Game favourites Winston, Isa, Tam, Navid, and Bobby.

Chewin' the Fat is a Scottish comedy sketch show, starring Ford Kiernan, Greg Hemphill and Karen Dunbar. Comedians Paul Riley and Mark Cox also appeared regularly on the show. Chewin' the Fat first started as a radio series on BBC Radio Scotland. The later television show, which ran for four series, was first broadcast on BBC One Scotland, but series three and four, as well as highlights from the first two series, were later broadcast to the rest of the United Kingdom. Although the last series ended in February 2002, 6 Hogmanay specials were broadcast and offered on DVD when purchasing the Scottish Sun between 2000 to 2005, one every year. Chewin' the Fat gave rise to the spin-off show Still Game, a sitcom focusing on the two old male characters Jack and Victor. The series was mostly filmed in and around Glasgow and occasionally West Dunbartonshire. The English idiom to chew the fat means to chat casually, but thoroughly, about subjects of mutual interest.

The Karen Dunbar Show was a television comedy sketch show that aired on BBC One Scotland, starring the popular Scottish comedian Karen Dunbar. It was produced by BBC Scotland.
