John-John est jeune et noir, il grandit avec sa mère et son beau-père dans une banlieue ennuyeuse au sud de Stockholm. L'un des derniers jours des vacances d'été, ils sauvent Patricia, 10 ans, de la noyade dans un bain public à Vinterviken, sur le lac Mälaren. Son père montre sa gratitude en les ramenant chez eux dans le quartier riche de Bromma, où lui et sa famille vivent. John-John rencontre sa fille Elisabeth et tombe instantanément amoureux d'elle. Mais c'est un long chemin à parcourir avant qu'il ne gagne son amour et le consentement de son père.

The film is based on a series of immensely popular Swedish children's books, about the boy Bert, who is just hitting puberty and having the usual problems with it. But that's where the usual ends abruptly.

'Klimpen' was the beloved antagonist of the classic 90s adolescent comedy series "Bert". Two decades later, Martin - who played Klimpen - is newly divorced, depressed, alcoholic and homeless. This documentary follows Martin over three years as he finds new love, and tries to get his life back on track.

Leila is the girl that everyone is in love with. Bert is in the same class as Amira, the little sister to Leila, and he sees his opportunity to approach Leila through friendship with Amira.

The first appearance on screen for Bert Ljung, a normal teenager who's diary Swedes have been able to follow in well over ten books now. As in the books, he fights spots, looks for girls, runs his moped, plays with his weird friends Ake and Erik, and a lot of other stuff teenagers are supposed to do.
