Clara Zavaleta et Santiago Urrutia semblent mener une vie parfaite : elle est une journaliste réputée et lui, un avocat très prestigieux. Il est assisté par l’officier Antonio Avelica, considéré comme un héros au sein de la police, mais dont les relations étroites avec la famille de la victime ont des conséquences néfastes car il s’aventure trop dans l’enquête pour retrouver celui ou ceux qui ont tué Ignacio.
