Billie Holiday (1915-1959) n’a pas eu une enfance facile. Née d’une mère mineure à la dérive, elle a été violée une première fois à l’âge de 11 ans, puis condamnée par un tribunal pour enfants et placée dans une maison de redressement catholique... : autant de drames qui ont concouru à forger son caractère de battante. Le quartier du port de Baltimore où elle a grandi étant aussi celui des boîtes de jazz, elle participe très tôt aux concours entre musiciens en vogue à l'époque. En 1929, elle rejoint sa mère à New York et commence à chanter dans les bars de Harlem. Remarquée par un producteur de disques, elle enregistre avec Benny Goodman, puis tourne un court métrage avec Duke Ellington. Sa carrière est lancée. Mais sa tournée de 1938 avec une formation exclusivement blanche la renvoie à son destin de femme noire confrontée à la ségrégation raciale dans le Sud…

In 1937, after seeing a photo depicting the lynching of a black man in the south, Bronx-born high school teacher Abel Meeropol wrote a poem entitled "Strange Fruit" that begins with the words: "Southern trees bear a strange fruit / Blood on the leaves and blood at the root." He set the poem to music and a few years later convinced Billy holiday to record it in a legendary heartbreaking performance. Propriétaire d'un club de jazz à Montréal, Nick Wells prévoit de prendre sa retraite. En vingt ans passés au service du crime, aucun coffre n'a résisté à ce génie de la cambriole qui s'enorgueillit de ne travailler qu'en solo. Ce dernier décide néanmoins de monter un dernier coup, qui sera le couronnement de sa carrière. Max Baron, receleur et ami de longue date de Nick, lui propose de voler un sceptre d'or massif du XVIème siècle, entreposé dans les sous-sols de la Douane de Montréal. A priori, le coup est irréalisable. C'est pourquoi Max a confié au jeune Jackie Teller la lourde tâche d'aider Nick à accomplir ce vol. Mais en s'associant avec ce malfrat erratique qui n'aurait aucun scrupule à le doubler, Nick se retrouve plongé dans un engrenage infernal dont il aura beaucoup de mal à s'extirper.

"Jazz Seen" is an exploration of the life of William Claxton, whose photographs turned the world of jazz on its keen and perceptive ear. Various jazz artists, photographers, and actors recount memories they had with Claxton and explore his work, while parts of his life are re-enacted by actors.

Released in 1994, this documentary tells the story of the life of Robbie Robertson, a central figure in the band that established an era of American rock music, through various images and interviews. The film covers Robbie's encounter with Southern music, the origin of his music, his time with the Hawks, his collaboration with Bob Dylan, and his performance at the legendary Woodstock. The Last Waltz, from the breakup to becoming a solo artist, and working with director Martin Scorsese. Robbie himself talks about his career as a solo artist and his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. Also featured are 'Lost Performance' film segments from the Band's appearance at Woodstock, as well as unreleased clips of Robbie and the Band backing up Bob Dylan on the infamous 'Eat the Document' tour.

The film project under the working title of "Nightwalk" about the jazz music of the Afro-American Cassandra Wilson, was born of the idea to really create a fusion between music and pictures. The film team concentrate the contents of the film on the actual theme of the music, "Children of the night". This is not, however, a conventional plot rather an atmospheric series of pictures surrounding a figure who is wandering through the city streets at night.
