Humanity makes much progress through a combination of science and magic, until a large war breaks out. Many years later, the magical city of Sosarium (constructed on the Moon) sends an agent down to Earth to make sure history does not repeat itself as civilisation starts to rebuild itself. That agent is known as an Angel.

Kai and Gerda are very dear friends who have been living together since young. However, one wintry day, the Snow Queen appears stirring up snow and wind, and a sliver of mirror gets lodged into Kai's heart. Kai drives Gerda away in tears and the Snow Queen takes Kai away to her realm. The adults try to dissuade Gerda from pursuing Kai, saying that he is already dead. But determined to find Kai, Gerda set off on her own journey which is filled with trials and tribulations.

La ville de Lux, construite dans les profondeurs de la Terre, est devenue « une cité abandonnée » depuis que la surface l'a oubliée. Ses habitants y vivent dans la peur et le désespoir tandis que les gangs dirigent la ville. Ceux-ci contrôlent également la « Texhnolyze », une technologie qui permet de remplacer les membres du corps humain par des prothèses cybernétiques. Le destin de ce monde va se jouer entre quatre personnages : Ohnishi, le caïd de la ville, Ran, une jeune fille aux pouvoirs de divination, Yoshi, un mystérieux visiteur et Ichise, un boxeur mutilé. La « Texhnolyze » les sauvera-t-elle ou les mènera-t-elle à leur destruction ?
