The story takes place in a future where the human race has expanded and inhabits a multitude of planets in the universe with fantastic technology. Unsurprisingly, crime has grown alongside technology, and thus the GOTT, Galactic Organization of Trade and Tariffs, is formed as a sort of universal police force. Within this organization, there is a special (and secret) branch known as the ES Force (ES standing for "Encounter of Shadow-work"), consisting of twelve young people that possess amazing superpowers. Each ES member operates with another as a team, and the series' focus is a team of two low-level members, Éclair and Lumière. As the series progresses, they start to see the darker side of GOTT and its secrets.

The battle for the Capital city of Kyo rages as warring political factions vie for power against hereditary rulers. After the murder of her parents at the hands of her seditious uncle, a young girl named Kintoki flees to the mountains to lead a harsh life; she is renamed Kai Doh Maru by the local villagers. Rescued by Raiko, the Captain of 'The Four Knights' - honorable defenders who protect the peace of the city, she is raised within their group as a boy. Living among the Knights, she learns the practices of martial arts and develops into a skillful samurai, becoming a permanent member of their team. Now, as a young woman of seventeen, she begins to discover new feelings of passion and love for Raiko... but she also discovers that these new emotions cause a storm of jealousy and rage in another woman linked to her past.

Dans le lycée Daimon, les disputes entre clubs ou élèves se règlent à l'aide de K-fight, un système révolutionnaire qui permet de départager équitablement les partis lors d'un conflit. Ryoko Mitsurugi, une fan de film de samourai, en est la championne. Alors qu'elle se prépare pour un K-fight, elle trouve un pendentif mystérieux et se retrouve propulsée dans un monde appelé Solvania, où une prétresse lui apprend qu'elle est le seigneur démon de Yenen et qu'elle doit protéger ce monde des monstres qui l'envahissent.

Sôsuke Sagara, Kurz Weber et Melissa Mao sont des soldats d'élite, membres de l'organisation mercenaire Mithril et chargés de protéger une jeune lycéenne, Kanamé Chidori, cible d'un groupuscule terroriste particulièrement dangereux et bien équipé. C'est le sergent Sagara, le plus jeune de l'équipe, qui se charge d'infiltrer l'école dans laquelle se trouve Kanamé. Malheureusement, enfant-soldat depuis son plus jeune âge, celui-ci n'a aucune connaissance ni expérience de la vie en tant que simple civil, et ses interventions manquent souvent du tact et de la discrétion les plus élémentaires : rapidement, Kanamé commence à se douter de quelque chose, et son tempérament impulsif l'amène à vouloir en savoir plus…
