« The Heirs » est un drama retranscrivant les aventures et relations de riches héritiers de chaebols auxquels la jolie mais pauvre Cha Eun Sang se retrouvera mêlée bien malgré elle. Ceux qui veulent la couronne doivent en supporter le poids. Héritier du groupe Empire, fils illégitime du président Kim Nam Yun et fiancé à la jeune héritière Yu Rachel, Kim Tan a grandi dans l'ombre de son frère aîné Kim Won qui contrairement à lui prend son travail au sein de l'entreprise très au sérieux. Alors qu'il effectue ses études aux États-Unis où il a été envoyé par son frère considérant sa présence comme une menace à sa position, Kim Tan fait la rencontre d'une jeune fille nommée Cha Eun Sang pour laquelle il développera peu à peu des sentiments. Par ailleurs, Yun Chan Yeong, le meilleur ami d'Eun Sang et fils du secrétaire du groupe Empire se trouve aussi être le petit ami de Lee Bo Na, l'ex-petite amie de Kim Tan et héritière d'une grande agence de divertissement.

No Eul quant à elle est une productrice et réalisatrice de documentaires peu recommandable car connue de tous comme étant matérialiste et extrêmement vénale. Alors que celle-ci se trouve sur le point de perdre son travail pour avoir une énième fois fait preuve d'un manque d'éthique, et que lui découvre souffrir d'une maladie incurable réduisant de manière conséquente sa durée de vie, il accepte alors de participer à un documentaire dans le but d'aider No Eul à gagner de l'argent de manière honorable et se refaire une réputation dans le milieu. Mais tous deux pourront-ils profiter de cette occasion pour retrouver leur relation d'antan ? Comment Jun Yeong réagira-t-il en découvrant le thème de ce documentaire : "Que feriez-vous s'il ne vous restait plus que quelque temps à vivre ?" Et qu'adviendra-t-il quand à cela viendra se mêler de lourds secrets du passé ?
