Young Dick is pursuing pretty young Mary, but so are a lot of other young men. Dick decides to impersonate her butler and uses that position to keep all of Mary's suitors out of the house so he can work on her himself. When his ruse is discovered, he is thrown out of the house. That, however, doesn't stop him. He gets the maid to help him concoct a story about Mary actually being bald and having false teeth, hoping to drive them away. It works, but it doesn't quite have the effect he intended it to.

Max and his son Asher are invited to a party, where Max meets a rich widow, but Asher keeps annoying all of the guests, so Max refuses to speak to him. 10 days later he has married the widow, but hasn't told her about Asher. Asher doesn't like the situation either, and enters the home disguised as the new maid, that leeds to a growing suspicion of his step mother, who has her own little secret.

Très vite le jeune couple doit faire face à son passé : Dot a perdu sa maman à sa naissance et Eddie vient d'une famille très pauvre. Lorsque Dot se rend compte qu'elle est enceinte elle n'ose le dire à Eddie persuadée qu'il ne désire pas d'enfant car il soutient que les parents sont fous de mettre des enfants au monde...
