Ascel longs to escape her village in Kyrgyzstan and dreams of going to Moscow. The big city indeed tests her survival skills.

Aïdar, a young Kyrgyz man returns home from his studies in France, with a beautiful French fiancée in tow. His fiancée is warmly welcomed by the village and captivated by the beauty of the region, but he stubbornly refuses to tell his family that the two are engaged.

Monsieur Lumière a un rêve : construire sur les montagnes des éoliennes pour alimenter toute la vallée en électricité. Mais il va devoir faire face à des hommes puissants et corrompus qui sont les nouveaux maîtres du pays.

Their father has been forced to work away in Russia in order to pay off Kerim's debts, incurred as a result of his eldest son's drug dealing activities. The brothers both fall for a local village girl, Saltanat, which ultimately leads to a bitter dispute and unforeseen and tragic consequences...
