Womanizing dentist takes his wife for a vacation in Petrópolis, Brazil. In their hotel, a woman dressed in white visits the room of a different man each night, causing trouble.

A gang of bandits led by Faustão intervene in a fight between two members of rival families, the Pereiras and the Araújos. Henrique Pereira, son of Colonel Pereira, is wounded in an ambush. The story centers on the name change that the city undergoes, promoted by the younger citizens and reviled by the older ones. It also focuses on the lives of the city's quirky residents.
