Un acteur, Michael, meurt juste après une rupture difficile, se réveillant dans le purgatoire des célibataires, il doit trouver l'âme sœur afin de passer de l'autre côté. Avec un temps limité pour trouver le véritable amour parmi d'autres new-yorkais célibataires récemment décédés, il rencontre finalement la femme de ses rêves mais il se trouve que cette dernière est vivante, Michael doit trouver le moyen de tromper le système pour passer de l'autre côté et trouver le repos éternel...
