The attempt of a young hairdresser to act in a serious film with his chosen co star , recognized during the shooting as inept, is mistakenly taken by the audience to be deliberately comic.

Artist Armand Hauterive sketches Romany girl Nadette Darson. When she returns to her caravan, they start to beat her, until Hauterive pays them money to be his model. She comes with him to his studio, where she discovers he is madly in love with another woman who rejects him.

Pour décrocher la commande d'un riche américain, le couturier Pommier fait jouer à l'arpète, Jacqueline, le rôle d'une acheteuse importante. Mais c'est un véritable coup de théâtre, lorsque celle-ci retrouve le milliardaire chez son amant, un jeune peintre, et découvre ainsi qu'il est le père de l'artiste qu'elle croyait aussi pauvre qu'elle.
