Wet Gold is the story of a young woman (Laura), who works as a waitress in a cafe. Laura stumbles across a drunk elderly man (Sampson), who fills her with exciting stories of a boat that went down with millions in gold. Although Laura's boyfriend (Barnes), keeps telling her that Sampson's stories are all false, Sampson makes her believe that they are indeed true. Laura takes Sampson to a library, where she finds an old newspaper article which matches up with the events described to her by him. After becoming a true believer, Laura convinces Barnes, Sampson and a dive shop owner, Keating, to search for the treasure. Together they set off from Key West in the Baker's boat, which Barnes is supposed to be looking after. Keating shows a liking for Laura, and because of this, Barnes begins to feel uncomfortable towards him. After spending some time in the water, their dreams become reality, but the discovery of gold begins to show a change in their personalities...

In Los Angeles, naive and lonely waitress and aspirant singer Carol finds an advertisement for a job opportunity in Tokyo. Traveling to Japan to work at the White Orchid nightclub, she discovers the scheme of prostitution in the club that belongs to Yakuza. Alone, without money and her passport, she is protected by Shiro, but pressed by the managers Madame Mori and her husband Hatanaka to be receptive to client's proposals.

Struggling actress Hedda Hopper can't get a break in Hollywood, even though an acquaintence of hers is the extremely powerful gossip monger Louella Parsons - maker and breaker of careers (and lives) through her daily syndicated newspaper column. The big movie moguls, fed up with Parson's power over their stars, decide to de-claw her by setting up gossip Hopper as a competitor in the rumour industry. What they couldn't forsee was that Hopper would become as big as Parsons -- and every bit as much of a pain. Based on the true life stories of two of the most powerful (and arguably dangerous) women of Hollywood's hay-day.

Médecin légiste à Los Angeles, Dawn Holliday (incarnée par Cheryl Ladd, une ex Drôles de dames) passe ses vacances sur l'ïle de Waikiki où un corps sans vie a été retrouvé. La police fait appel à Dawn car il n'y a plus de médecin légiste et la charge d'examiner le corps. Elle découvre qu'il s'agit d'un meurtre et décide de mener son enquête malgré les mises en garde du détective Mack Wolfe.

Psychiatre à la radio, Frasier Crane, voit ses petites habitudes bouleversées lorsqu’il accepte d’accueillir son père chez lui. Divorcé et maniaque, cet homme de quarante ans est habitué à vivre seul et n’aime pas que l’on dérange sa petite routine. Cependant il ne peut mettre à la porte son père handicapé (policier blessé en service) et les deux hommes sont obligés de cohabiter tant bien que mal. Mais la communication n’est pas bonne, père et fils ont du mal à extérioriser leurs sentiments et les discussions finissent bien souvent en disputes. Pour s’éloigner de cette ambiance tendue, Frasier aime retrouver son frère Niles autour d'un café, pour philosopher sur l'existence et critiquer son entourage. Niles est un personnage snob et intolérant, peu disposé à faire des sacrifices.

Veuve de Franck Fletcher, Jessica Beatrice Fletcher, ancienne professeur d'anglais devenue auteur de romans policiers, utilise ses dons d'observation et son sens inné de la logique pour jouer les détectives amateurs et résoudre des affaires criminelles. Elle officie surtout dans la petite ville de Cabot Cove, dans le Maine, où elle réside, même si elle se prête au jeu dans différents états des États-Unis. Il lui arrive également d'enquêter en dehors du territoire américain, ce qui lui vaut d'être fichée non seulement au FBI, mais aussi à la CIA et au KGB, pour s'être mêlée à plusieurs reprises de certaines de leurs affaires qu'elle a pourtant aidé à résoudre, que ce soit à l'occasion de la promotion de ses livres, ou de voyages personnels : si elle n'a pas d'enfants, Jessica n'en a pas moins une immense famille, qui compte un nombre incalculable de neveux et de nièces...
