L'histoire se déroule à Maoka City, Karafuto , au Japon (actuellement Kholmsk , Sakhaline , Fédération de Russie ) pendant la dernière année de la guerre du Pacifique . Neuf opérateurs de téléphonie à Maoka se sont suicidés en prenant du cyanure de potassium lorsque l'Union soviétique a envahi la ville le 20 août 1945. [3] Le drame télévisé est basé sur cet incident et est partiellement fictif (noms des personnages, etc.) .

A l'époque du lycée, Motoharu Yano était le garçon le plus populaire. Pourtant, sous ses airs de jeune homme parfait, Yano souffrait en silence depuis la perte de sa petite amie dans un accident de voiture. Nanami Takahashi va malgré tout tomber amoureuse du jeune homme et va devoir apprendre à gérer l’incapacité de ce dernier à oublier son passer.

Kanna Seto lost her childhood friend Haruta in a car accident when she was a freshman in high school. Carrying the emotional pain from that incident throughout her life, Kanna is still wounded as an adult. Kanna then meets Roku Akazawa, who also carries a painful experience from his past. When Roku was an elementary school student, a girl who was with him got into an accident and died. Because of that incident, Roku carries a heavy sense of guilt. When they meet, time, frozen since that day, begins to tick again.

Based on a manga with the same name created by Aida Natsumi, 'Switch Girl!!' revolves around a high school student named Nika who appears to be a stylish and fashionable girl at school, but that's really a fake persona that she uses when she's in public. At home, she “switches off” the facade and her returns to her true slovenly nature. Kiriyama Renn plays the good-looking transfer student Arata, who is Nika's love interest in the story.
