Dans un immeuble d'un quartier populaire, Antonietta, épouse d'un petit fonctionnaire fasciste, se consacre aux tâches ménagères. Son mainate s'échappe et se pose sur le rebord d'une fenêtre. Antonietta en avertit le locataire concerné. C'est ainsi qu'elle fait la connaissance de Gabriele, un commentateur de radio homosexuel, récemment licencié, qui attend son arrestation imminente.
