En 1997, Ole Bornedal a tourné aux États-Unis, le remake de son thriller Night Watch (Nattevagten). Peu convaincu, il est revenu au Danemark réaliser des films forts et personnels comme ce Deliver Us from Evil, lancinant. Au départ un accident: Lars, ivre renverse une passante et fait endosser le crime à un immigrant. Johannes, le frère de Lars, prend parti pour le faux coupable : il va devenir la cible de la colère xénophobe de tout un village.

It's 1930 and two record producers are competing to sign a big contract with the leading singer of the day. One kidnaps the other, thinking it's in the bag - unaware that his competitor has a twin who will step in to save the day.
