Manfred Falk is an experienced race car driver and member of a racing collective in Eisenach. While competing in West Germany, the beautiful Manuela convinces him to leave his girlfriend Inge and his friends at the collective behind in order to join the South American Alvarez racing company.

À Digne, en raison de ce mandat encombrant et dissuasif, il ne trouve refuge pour la nuit nulle part sauf dans la demeure de Monseigneur Bienvenu Myriel, un évêque charitable qui lui offre un nouveau départ. Repenti, sous une autre identité, Jean Valjean va faire fortune en inventant un procédé révolutionnaire en verroterie et va œuvrer pour le bien au détriment de son propre bonheur. Mais ses ambitions humanistes sont réprimées par des hommes de lois comme Javert père et fils ou des malfrats comme Thénardier, vil aubergiste de Montfermeil. En 1848, dans un Paris qui gronde sous la menace de l’insurrection, Jean Valjean doit lutter pour rester un honnête homme.

Young Kuttel belongs to a group of working-class children who live in Berlin at the beginning of the 1930s. In the big summer holidays in 1931, the children want to make a race with their model boats and choose as a venue for the small artificial water in the park of their neighborhood. All children in the area are invited to participate in the competition. But there is a traitor among them, who tells the company to the local police officers, who in any case look with arrogance on the "Reds"...

Early 18th-century Krakow: The poor student Simon works as a travelling musician in order to finance his studies, and the Polish freedom fighter Jan is on the run from Saxon troops. They meet in the carriage of Count Kovalska, where they fall in love with the Count’s daughters Laura and Bronislava.

Railway employee Fritz Marr is not regarded well by his superiors. It is the year 1920, and trains regularly pass the railway hub of Erfurt to the East to secretly transport weapons for the fight against the young Soviet Union. Marr knows about this and wants to mobilise other workers to stop these illegal deliveries. To muzzle him, Marr is relocated to a remote rail work construction site.
