En Suède, Dino rêve d'une autre vie. À 23 ans, elle quitte son pays comme nombreux autres jeunes pour Oslo, en Norvège. Toutefois, sa vie n'est pas comme elle l'avait imaginé alors qu'elle se retrouve prise dans une spirale destructive d'emplois temporaires, de difficultés financières et de soirées de fêtes sans fin. Après s'être cassé un bras, elle est renvoyée et devient gouvernante dans une maison sur le bord du chaos. Steffen, père de 45 ans, ancien joueur de tennis professionnel, possède un restaurant proche de la faillite. Depuis le départ de sa femme, il habite seul avec ses deux enfants. Sa fille de 16 ans, Ida, ne lui parle plus. Bref, sa famille s'effondre. L'arrivée de Dino changera la situation. Durant ces quelques semaines d'été, Steffen et Ida vont entrer en compétition l'un contre l'autre d'une façon que personne n'aurait pu prévoir. Un drame triangulaire se tisse entre privilèges et désirs, avec des conséquences fatales.

Hawaii, Oslo is the story of a handful of people who cross each other's path without necessarily knowing each other, during the hottest day of the year, in Oslo. We follow Frode and Milla. They are having their first child, who they are told will not live long. We follow Bobbie-Pop, a faded singer who tries to commit suicide. We follow Leon, an institutionalized kleptomaniac who is loking for Åsa, to whom he has a ten year old deal to get married. We meet Leon's brother, Trygve, who fetches Leon at the institution to celebrate his birthday, but who himself has plans to use his leave from prison to run away. And most of all we meet the angel Vidar, Leon's best buddy at the institution, who sees things no one else can see, and who may be able to save everyone - except himself?
