A man returns every year to visit his estranged family and friends in this drama dripping with biting social commentary. His 40-year-old buddies are part of the nouveau riche who consider themselves elite and are content to sandbag it at work. Teutonic sentimentality is lampooned, and the narrow minded are held up to ridicule. Some fine performances outweigh the passages of unintentional humor in this second film from director Ulrich Schamoni.

An underage girl starts an affair with her much older employer. Then, her lover is sentenced for the seduction of a minor, and the young woman gets involved with his son, the junior head of the company. When his father is released from prison, father and son become rivals for their shared lover.

Antonin (Fernandel) est un ouvrier de ferme dans un petit village de Provence. Son patron lui demande de conduire Ulysse, un cheval de travail âgé de 28 ans, en Arles, aux corridas. Antonin fait tout pour sauver son vieux compagnon : il se propose de le racheter, mais n'a pas l'argent nécessaire ; il essaie également de s'enfuir avec lui pendant le voyage, mais une rencontre fortuite sur la route l'en empêche. Finalement contraint de l'amener aux arènes, Antonin y est témoin d'un accident : un cheval se fait encorner. Ne pouvant se résoudre à laisser son fidèle compagnon mourir de la sorte, Antonin le reprend en douce et file en direction de la Camargue, région d'origine d'Ulysse, avec l'intention ferme de le laisser y finir sa vie paisiblement...

In the "Swinging Munich" of the late 1960s: The young millionaire daughter Carroll Buchheim, an American, flew from the United States to Germany to visit her brother, who is missing.

The somewhat indolent father Traugott Wurster looks after his six sons while his wife works in a butcher's shop. One day, when Traugott falls into a mysterious prolonged sleep, mother Wurster is forced to give the children to relatives. Markus is sent to the stuffy Uncle Theodor, who turns into a childhood friend under his influence. Mother Wurster also "rents" the sleeping Traugott to a furniture store, which uses him to advertise mattresses in the shop window.
