Anthony John est l'un des comédiens les plus réputés de Broadway, à l'aise aussi bien dans la comédie que dans le drame. Mais lorsque son agent lui propose de monter Othello, Tony se montre réticent. Il sait que ses rôles ont tendance à influencer sa vie privée: c'est d'ailleurs ce qui a causé l'échec de son mariage avec Brita, sa partenaire attitrée. Cependant, poussé par le désir de briller dans un rôle difficile, Tony finit par se laisser convaincre. Avec Brita en Desdémone, le spectacle triomphe brillamment, mais bientôt le comédien se sent dominé par la jalousie meurtrière d'Othello...

Dans un train, Nikki Collins est témoin d'un meurtre alors qu'ils passent devant un immeuble. Quand elle le dit à la police, ils pensent qu'elle est folle car elle ne peut pas dire exactement où le crime s'est produit. Elle fait ensuite appel à un écrivain de romans policiers populaire pour l'aider à enquêter.

Bill Burnett, a resident of Bali, visits New York City, meets and falls in love with Gail Allen, the successful manager of a Fifth Avenue shop, who is determined to remain free and independent. Bill proposes, Gail declines and Bill goes home to Bali. But a young girl, Rosie, and Tony the Window Cleaner, who dispels advice on every floor, soon have Gail thinking maybe she was a bit hasty with her no to Bill's proposal. Ere long she discovers that she does love Bill and can't live without him. She goes down to Bali to give him the good news. He learns that he is soon to marry Noel Van Ness. She goes back to New York City.

A fast-paced, enjoyable entry in the long-running Three Mesqueteers Western series, Heroes of the Saddle featured the three cowboy pals promising to look after Peggy Bell, the little daughter of mortally wounded rodeo champ Montana. Legal technicalities, however, halt the adoption proceeding and Stony, Rusty, and Rico can only watch as the little girl is placed in the county orphanage.

A mental patient with a violent past is released from the institution, against the advice of his doctors, and sent back to his old neighborhood. Was he released too soon?

Shirley Ross plays an innocent young girl convicted for complicity in a crime committed by her boy friend (Lloyd Nolan). The male crook is sentence to six months on a prison farm populated by both men and women (segregated, of course). Ross is also incarcerated, suffering the cruelties of the sadistic male and female guards (including J. Carroll Naish and future "Ma Kettle" Marjorie Main!)

A compulsive gambler bets her freedom against a $16,000 debt to a crime boss…and loses. But before he can collect, she skips town, with a private detective hot on her trail.

Paul Kriza is a cashier of a bank in a small town, and the happy husband of Anna and the father of four children. He is sent to New York to deliver some securities for the bank. There, he is tagged as easy-pickings by a con-game gang and Mary Brown, gang accomplice, proves he is. Waking up in the morning he discovers he has been robbed of the securities and, when he confronts the gang, he is hit on the head and taken out to be left on a railroad track. He comes to, struggles with the henchman and the man is killed when a train comes roaring by. Paul escapes but his watch is found and he is reported as the dead man. But he can't go home again.

Lem Schofield, a lawyer in a one-time small-town turned industrialized big city, runs his firm on examples set by Abraham Lincoln and is a friend to the poor. Clay Clinton, his late partner's son joins the firm but is anxious for fast success and considers Schofield's old-fashioned principles antiquated. Being in love with Schofield's daughter and impatient for success he moves to offices supplied by the city's most powerful industrialist, J.T. Tapley, who has plans to use Clay's good family lineage as a stepping stone to political power. The unscrupulous Tapley precipitates a strike in his factory mill which causes a rupture between the former partners. Schofield sets out to bring Tapley and his political henchmen to justice.

Linda Wadsworth rebels against her millionaire grandfather, J. H. Wadsworth, and runs away from home. Unknown to Mr. Wadsworth, she gets a job at one of his many five-and-ten-cents stores as a clerk.

La famille Nolan vit pauvrement à Brooklyn. Katie fait de nombreux travaux ménagers. Ses deux enfants, Neeley et Francie, vendent de vieux chiffons à la sortie de l'école pour aider un peu la famille. Johnny, le mari, travaille dans un restaurant lorsqu'il n'est pas ivre et sa soeur Sissy mène une vie trop agitée au goût de Katie. La vie est difficile et Francie est obligée de quitter l'école pour travailler dans un restaurant. Johnny disparaît un jour et meurt dans un hôpital alors que Katie attend un troisième enfant. Les beaux jours reviennent lorsque le policier Mac Shane demande la main de Katie.

Kitty, une jeune fille des rues est éduquée par Sir Marcy. Elle épouse ensuite Jonathan Selly, qui meurt peu après. Enceinte, elle se remarie avec le duc de Malmunster, qui décède à son tour. Avec son titre de duchesse, elle peut enfin se lier avec l'homme de sa vie, Sir Hugh Marcy...

Cette série familiale met en scène les joies et les peines de la famille Anderson à Springfield.
