A college professor, left alone by his wife for the weekend, discovers his new TV set is not only alive, but determined to take control of his entire life.

En pleine nuit, alors qu'il dort profondément, Donald est sujet au somnambulisme et, après avoir posé une botte sur sa tête en guise de chapeau, sort dehors pour se rendre chez Daisy afin de l'inviter à sortir avec lui...

L'histoire se situe dans les années 1890. Donald, juché sur un vélocipède et tenant un bouquet de fleurs et une boîte de chocolats, part retrouver Daisy. Mais sur sa route, il rencontre en chemin Tic et Tac. Les deux écureuils le trouvent ridicule et décident de lui jouer un mauvais tour. Ils s'arrangent pour faire disparaître les cadeaux de Donald, le faire tomber dans une fontaine, puis mentent à Daisy en lui faisant croire que Donald leur a fait du mal.

Donald rend visite à Daisy Duck ; seulement, lorsqu'il échoue à ouvrir une fenêtre, il entre dans une colère noire, met pratiquement à sac la maison de cette dernière, qui refuse ensuite de le revoir tant qu'il n'aura pas réussi à maîtriser son tempérament...

Pour persuader Daisy qu'il peut s'améliorer Donald décide d'engager un sosie, véritable double de lui, afin de jouer la comédie....

Après avoir convaincu Donald qu'il avait un talent pour l'opéra, Daisy se rend compte qu'il n'a plus de place dans son emploi du temps pour la voir...

Using animals avoided the touchy racial issues which had led to the downfall of Amos 'n' Andy. Because of low ratings, the show was cancelled after two months, but returned two months later to complete the first season contract. For a year afterward reruns were seen on Saturday mornings, and eventually syndicated through the 1960s. It was also adapted as a comic book by Dell Comics, and as such the first of two issues was the final installment in the company's extremely prolific Four Color anthology series.

Matinee Theater is an American anthology series that aired on NBC during the Golden Age of Television, from 1955 to 1958. The series, which ran daily in the afternoon, was frequently live. It was produced by Albert McCleery, Darrell Ross, George Cahan and Frank Price with executive producer George Lowther. McCleery had previously produced the live series Cameo Theatre which introduced to television the concept of theater-in-the-round, TV plays staged with minimal sets. Jim Buckley of the Pewter Plough Playhouse recalled: When Al McCleery got back to the States, he originated a most ambitious theatrical TV series for NBC called Matinee Theater: to televise five different stage plays per week live, airing around noon in order to promote color TV to the American housewife as she labored over her ironing. Al was the producer. He hired five directors and five art directors. Richard Bennett, one of our first early presidents of the Pewter Plough Corporation, was one of the directors and I was one of the art directors and, as soon as we were through televising one play, we had lunch and then met to plan next week’s show. That was over 50 years ago, and I’m trying to think; I believe the TV art director is his own set decorator —yes, of course! It had to be, since one of McCleery’s chief claims to favor with the producers was his elimination of the setting per se and simply decorating the scene with a minimum of props. It took a bit of ingenuity.
