Tatsumi Ichiyama

Seijuro Fujihana, head master of the Fujihana dance school, is a proud and lonely artist. And because of his character, his group lacks the prosperity of others. He wishes his daughter Kasumi, gifted like himself, to take over and develop the Fujihana, but she wishes to marry Hiroshi, head of a jazz band which her father opposes. Kisaburo, Seijuro's No.1 disciple, wants to marry Kasumi and take over the Fujihana with the backing of the chairman of the supporters' association.

Sous le pseudonyme du « Lézard Noir », une sanguinaire voleuse de bijoux, criminelle de haute volée, et son gang cherchent par tous les moyens à kidnapper la fille d'un très riche bijoutier.

Après un an d'absence, Tora revient à Shibamata, le quartier de son enfance à Tokyo. Après des retrouvailles un peu agitées, il décide de partir pour Kyoto pour retrouver sa mère, Kiku, dont il rêve souvent.

A Nagoya, Tora a gagné gros aux courses. De retour à Shibamata, il exhibe ostensiblement un portefeuille bourré de liasses de billets et décide d’offrir à son oncle et à sa tante un voyage à Hawaï.

Tora a rêvé de la mort de son oncle qui s’occupe de sa sœur Sakura. Inquiet, il téléphone à Tôkyô. Sa famille peu habituée aux marques d’attention de leur neveu ingrat décide de lui jouer un bon tour.

Suzuko, a woman in her twenties who has a brother with political problems (due to communist reprisals), lives for over five years in a love affair with Tate who's a young lieutenant in the Army, ultimately becoming a right-wing fundamentalist revolutionary. She marries another man, one totally dedicated to the rigorous practices of Noh theatre, in an arranged marriage, but the bond that connects her with Tate is too strong.

À Shibamata, les Kuruma ont décidé de louer une chambre à une belle femme nommée Yûko, une parente éloignée de tante Tsune. De retour chez lui, le très sensible Tora en tombe naturellement amoureux d'elle.
