La direction d'une station de ski, pourtant bien informée de l'arrivée prochaine d'une terrible avalanche, ne prend pas les menaces au sérieux et autorise les skieurs à jouir des pistes. Mais la vague blanche ne se fait plus attendre et détruit tout sur son passage. Elle n'épargne pas le nouvel hôtel de la station, construit pour la saison d'hiver. Michael Cooper, architecte du bâtiment, est venu y passer quelques jours de vacances. Alors qu'il se trouve à l'intérieur au moment du drame, il va devoir se souvenir des plans afin de trouver la sortie de secours. Mais il doit faire vite, car déjà, une nouvelle avalanche se profile...
